Largest Urban center: Glasgow (Pop: 598,830 (2011 census data))
Most of the cities in Scotland are located near the coasts, and tend to be in the Central or Southern regions of the country. Part of the reason why urban centers are in Southern regions has to do with transport of goods to and from England, and the high altitudes in the Highlands make it very difficult to build city structures on the hills and mountains.
If you love to travel to busy cities with lots of art, music and great food- then Glasgow and Edinburgh are your top bets!
But if you love hiking and outdoor adventure, then the Highlands and Hebrides are the way to go!
